Pastoral Ministries

The Pastoral ministries of New Zion Baptist Church assists Pastor Wordlaw in fulfilling the Great Commission and implementing the outreach opportunities afforded New Zion through Vision 2000. The new Spiritual Health Center-Plex stands as an example of God’s faithfulness. Luke 12:48 instructs us that “to whomsoever much is given of him shall be much required.” Pastor Wordlaw tells us that ‘we are lively stones in God’s building; we are fellow-laborers with God working to keep the vision alive.” The Pastoral Ministries include:

· The Deacon Board
· The Mother’s Board
· The Trustee Board
· The Board of Directors
· Finance Committee
· The Executive Administrative Assistants
· The Assistant Ministers
· Early Bird Worship Ministry
· Evangelism and Operation Increase

The laborers in the Pastoral Ministries use the gifts of the Holy Spirit to support the spread of the Gospel and reap the fruits of God’s harvest.

· Deacon Board – “For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great ness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.”( I Tim. 3:13) The principal duties of the Deacons is to assist the Pastor in doing God’s will in New Zion Baptist Church . These duties include, but are not limited to the administration of temporal affairs, the care of the church property, and the proper provision for the due administration of the Baptist ordinances.

· Operation Increase – “And the word of God increased and the number of disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; (Acts 6:7) This ministry performs the work and services as directed by the Pastor that will improve existing Pastoral and Outreach Ministries.

· Music Ministry – “I will praise the Lord according to His righteousness and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord most High.” (Psalms7:17) The Music Ministry creates a praise/worship atmosphere through song that prepares a believers heart for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the reception of God’s Word. There are praise opportunities for all ages through our Adult, Youth, and Junior Choirs. The Music Ministry also features the widely acclaimed New Zion Male Chorus.

Women’s and Special Ministries

The Women’s Ministry and Special Ministries target specific groups to share the gift of Salvation and to encourage them in the Word by modeling Christ in word and deeds. The ministry opportunities include:

· Singles Ministry – “That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor.”(1Thess. 4:4) The Singles ministry’s goal is to fortify and direct the single, divorced, and widowed men and women towards God’s Will and purpose for their lives. Men and women, twenty years of age and older, apply biblical principles to today’s societal and relational issues.

· Deacons Wives – The Deacons wives support and assist their husbands in the performance and the housekeeping of the ordinances of the Church. The Deacon wives will emulate the spiritual model stated in 1Timothy 3:11 in that they are” grave, not slanders, sober and faithful in all things.”

· Minister’s Wives – The minister’s wives will seek to exemplify the characteristics of godly women described in the Bible. The minister wives will assist the Mother Board in teaching and counseling the younger women of New Zion.

· Mother's Board – The Mother's Board seeks to reflect the beauty of holiness in their lives as they teach the sound doctrine of Titus 2:1-10. The Mother's Board supports all of the New Zion ministries in prayer and service.

· Scholarship Committee - The Scholarship committe seeks to reach each young adult at New Zion directly, establishing relationships that will last as the young people transition to adulthood. This committee acts as a liasion between the church and student keeping them abreast of the activities of the church and letting the student know that the church supports them. We provide moral, material, and financial assistance. The committee encourages the students to Press Towards Excellence (1 Corinthians 12:31).

Christian Education Ministry

· Christian Education – “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another… (Col.3:16a) The Christian education department provides classes and activities designed to promote the spiritual growth of New Zion members and visitors. Sunday school and Bible classes are available for all ages and will equip with the knowledge necessary to stand for Christ in this evil world.

· Sunday School and Baptist Training Union – “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”(2Tim. 2:15 ) The Sunday School and Baptist Training Union department provides learning activities that nurture the growth and application of the Word in their daily lives.

· Wednesday Night Bible Class – “Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said “How can I, except some men should guide me? (Acts 8 30b-31a) The Wednesday Night Bible Class mission is to love and to truthfully train those who enter the doors of New Zion Baptist Church in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

· Fellowship Ministry – “That which we have seen and heard declare unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. (1John 1:3) The Fellowship (Tribal) ministry creates small groups by birth months. The groups are named after the twelve tribes of Israel and foster relationships that promote spiritual growth and development among New Zion Members. The tribes are responsible for Family and Friends Outreach days, the Fellowship Luncheon, funeral and repast services, in addition to the guidance and encouragement of the Brethren.

Support Ministry
“ And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, governments, diversities of tongues,” ( 2Cor. 12:28 ) The Support Ministry uses their gifts in the areas of nursing, ushering, security and bus transportation. Their encouragement, comfort, and service to all they encounter exemplify the Christ they serve.
